Business & Contracts

The J. Ross Firm is dedicated to providing clients with prompt, efficient, and creative counseling and representation for business needs including but not limited to organization and entity creation, internal and external contracts, and transactional matters including buy-sell agreements, operating agreements, and miscellaneous employment agreements. We are equipped to work with partnerships, LLC’s, professional corporations, various forms of joint ventures and even not-for-profit organizations.

Domestic Partnerships

A Domestic Partnership is a private contract that spells out how you want to deal with property and debts and allows you to decide how they should be divided if either or both of you die or if you break up. If you don’t have an Agreement you risk a judge making these important decisions for you. This can be emotionally and financially difficult and cost you both thousands of dollars and months of distress.

Partnership Dissolution & Divorce

A legal marriage is created by law and must be dissolved by the appropriate court; this is a divorce. Divorce ends a legal marriage and divides the property and debts of the separating couple. A domestic partnership is not the same as a legal marriage according to the law but there are laws and legal principles that can be employed to divide the property and debts of separating not-legally-married couples. Even the most amicable divorce or dissolution of a partnership can present challenges. The J. Probate

Probate is the legal process by which an estate is resolved. There a many different ways to resolve an estate and just as many different reasons for doing it one way or another. There are also ways and reasons to avoid the legal probate process. The J. Ross Firm is prepared to help you through the legal jungle of dealing with an estate you are charged with resolving. As with any other legal issue, the pitfalls and hurdles of probating an estate can be a special challenge in our community based on a lack of legal recognition of our relationships.

Estate Planning

Your estate is everything you own at the time of your death. An estate plan allows you to decide how your property, including your body, should be handled and who should do it. This is done by drafting Wills, Powers of Attorney, and other private contracts and documents. A Will can allow your partner or other loved one to keep your property after your death. Powers of Attorney allow your partner to make medical and/or financial decisions for you if you are unable and there are other documents that allow other specific rights. These rights are not automatic outside of a legal marriage even for domestic partners and legal documents must be prepared properly if your desires are to be fulfilled.

Criminal Defense and DUI

Interacting with the law enforcement and appearing before a judge can be confusing and terrifying. Some of Arizona’s criminal laws carry mandatory sentences and/or jail time! You may not know all of your rights and some of them have to be exercised within specific time frames and contexts or they are waived. If you have been arrested or have received a Summons and Complaint in the mail The J. Ross Firm can help you. Innocent or not, The J. Ross Firm will ensure that you are treated fairly and that your rights are respected throughout the criminal process.

Parental Rights & Custody

Families come in all shapes and sizes and all children need and deserve the love and care of the adults that nurture them. Although Arizona does not create same-sex second-parent adoptions, your rights as a parent, even a non-biological parent, can be established and safe-guarded through the law.
